A streaming algorithm for computing an approximate minimum spanning ellipse

چکیده
We propose a streaming algorithm to compute an approximate ellipse of a set of points. This extends the work of Zarrabi-Zadeh and Chan who proposed a very simple algorithm to compute a 3/2-approximate (in terms of radius) d-dimensional ball in the same model. We have been able to obtain only a very crude approximation ratio of 9k 4 √ 1−e2 (in terms of area), where e is the eccentricity of the minimum spanning ellipse of the point set, and k is a constant defined in the text. The algorithm uses O(1) space, and O(1) time for each point.

Approximate minimum spanning ellipse in the streaming model
In [11] Zarrabi-Zadeh and Chan proposed an algorithm to compute an approximate minimum spanning ball in the streaming model of computation and showed by an elegant analysis that the radius of the approximate ball is to within 3/2 of the exact one. Inspired by this result, in this paper we consider the extension of this result to computing approximate minimum spanning ellipses. The ball algorith...
متن کاملA Metaheuristic Algorithm for the Minimum Routing Cost Spanning Tree Problem
The routing cost of a spanning tree in a weighted and connected graph is defined as the total length of paths between all pairs of vertices. The objective of the minimum routing cost spanning tree problem is to find a spanning tree such that its routing cost is minimum. This is an NP-Hard problem that we present a GRASP with path-relinking metaheuristic algorithm for it. GRASP is a multi-start ...
متن کاملAlgorithms for streaming graphs
An algorithm solving a graph problem is usually expected to have fast random access to the input graph G and a working memory that is able to store G completely. These powerful assumptions are put in question by massive graphs that exceed common working memories and that can only be stored on disks or even tapes. Here, random access is very time-consuming. To tackle massive graphs stored on ext...
متن کاملSpectral-spatial classification of hyperspectral images by combining hierarchical and marker-based Minimum Spanning Forest algorithms
Many researches have demonstrated that the spatial information can play an important role in the classification of hyperspectral imagery. This study proposes a modified spectral–spatial classification approach for improving the spectral–spatial classification of hyperspectral images. In the proposed method ten spatial/texture features, using mean, standard deviation, contrast, homogeneity, corr...
متن کاملOptimal Per-Edge Processing Times in the Semi-Streaming Model
We present semi-streaming algorithms for basic graph problems that have optimal per-edge processing times and therefore surpass all previous semi-streaming algorithms for these tasks. The semi-streaming model, which is appropriate when dealing with massive graphs, forbids random access to the input and restricts the memory to O(n · polylogn) bits. Particularly, the formerly best per-edge proces...
